Iranian Military: U.S. Rescue Attempt Fails, Two Helicopters Shot Down

Sputnik News, Tehran, April 5 — According to Iranian Armed Forces' Khatam al-Anbia Central Headquarters spokesperson Zolfagharie, the U.S. pilot rescue operation failed, with two "Black Hawk" helicopters and one C-130 transport aircraft shot down.

Earlier, President Trump stated that the second pilot from the previously downed F-15E fighter jet in Iran had been rescued and is now safe. He mentioned that dozens of aircraft participated in the rescue mission.

Iran Islamic Republic Broadcasting Company cited Zolfagharie's statement saying: "The enemy's attempt to rescue pilots of the downed aircraft has failed. Air targets belonging to the enemy were hit south of Isfahan, including two 'Black Hawk' helicopters and one C-130 military transport aircraft... they are now burning."

On February 28, the United States and Israel launched multiple strikes against targets inside Iran, including attacks on Tehran, causing destruction and civilian casualties. In response, Iran carried out retaliatory missile strikes on Israeli territory and U.S. military targets in the Middle East.
