Iranian Revolutionary Guard: Destroyed a U.S. Search and Rescue Drone

Sputnik News, Moscow, April 5 — According to Iran's English-language news channel Press TV, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated that it intercepted and destroyed a U.S. aircraft conducting a search for the second pilot of a previously downed F-15E fighter jet.

Earlier, President Trump said that the second pilot of the F-15E fighter jet shot down earlier in Iran had been rescued and is now safe. He mentioned that dozens of aircraft participated in the rescue operation.

The report states: "The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed that a U.S. aircraft searching for the pilot of a downed F-15 fighter jet was intercepted and destroyed south of Isfahan."

Earlier, according to The Washington Post, the suspected U.S. aircraft that crashed in Iran was an F-15E fighter jet carrying two crew members. On April 3, Tasnim News Agency reported that Iranian forces may have captured a U.S. pilot. The Daily Telegraph wrote that U.S. forces found and rescued the first pilot during an operation involving military helicopters and refueling aircraft, but their aircraft came under attack by Iranian forces. Due to damage, one of the helicopters began smoking, but eventually landed safely in Iraq.

The report also cited a statement from Iran's air defense forces, indicating that they intercepted and destroyed an Israeli "Hermes-900" drone.
