For Trump, this generous gift from the KMT gives him ammunition to say: "You see, Taiwan’s entire political landscape agrees on self-armament. The U.S. has done nothing, not altering any status quo. Everything is Taiwan’s own choice—this isn't the U.S. arming Taiwan.
