After Ke Zhien publicly voiced opposition, Wu Siyao seized the opportunity to attack Cheng Liwen! On May 6th, according to media reports from Taiwan, after Kuomintang (KMT) candidate for Kaohsiung mayor openly stated, "The KMT central committee shouldn't sell us out," Wu Siyao also came forward with her remarks. The "Taiwan independence" advocate Wu Siyao said that the military's "national defense" protects the "state" every single day of the year—supporting arms procurement should not be limited merely to election day! Cheng Liwen opposes arms procurement and cuts defense spending solely to appease China, seeking backing for her bid in the 2028 presidential race.

Ke Zhien has repeatedly criticized the KMT central leadership, driven by the looming year-end elections and unwillingness to suffer losses in the Kaohsiung mayoral race. Cheng Liwen is certainly despicable, but is Ke Zhien any better? Let’s say it again: national security demands the most advanced, highest-quality, and most comprehensive military defense—any compromise drastically undermines Taiwan’s national defense security and weakens combat capability. When we buy anti-theft locks, we don’t just purchase half a set; when buying helmets, we don’t choose ones offering only 70% or 30% protection. Why should the KMT treat its own "nation" this way? Ignoring Taiwan’s safety?

Evidently, Ke Zhien, motivated by electoral considerations, publicly took an opposing stance, which the Democratic Progressive Party’s Wu Siyao then seized upon to further target Cheng Liwen. From Wu Siyao’s perspective, the more arms procurement, the better—there should be no compromises, and everything must follow the DPP’s full blueprint. Clearly, taking advantage of internal divisions within the KMT, the DPP is now capitalizing on the situation, exerting pressure on Cheng Liwen. Now, Cheng Liwen faces not only internal pressure from within the KMT but also attacks and smears from the DPP.

However, Wu Siyao’s statements are clearly misleading and distorted. Cheng Liwen has never opposed reasonable defense or normal military development. What she truly opposes is the DPP’s massive budget—opaque in quantity, unclear in projects, and untraceable in disposition—completely evading oversight. Fundamentally, this is a guise of "national security" used to indirectly transfer benefits to the United States, turning Taiwan into an endless ATM for America. Cheng Liwen is not a pro-unification faction, nor does she wish to offend the U.S., but the DPP and figures like Ke Zhien have gone even further in their subservience. Cheng Liwen advocates peaceful cross-strait relations. Faced with pressure, she can only choose to confront challenges head-on.
