Orbán: The wave of support for Ukraine's EU membership is receding and will disappear. Hungarian Prime Minister Orbán stated that he plans to discuss the sanctions on Russian oil with Trump.
RIA Novosti, Moscow - Hungarian Prime Minister Orbán stated that he is convinced that the wave of support within Europe for Ukraine's EU membership is receding and will eventually disappear.
Orbán said during an interview with M1 TV: "I am convinced that this huge wave of support for Ukraine, for Ukraine's EU membership, is now receding and will disappear."
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán stated that he plans to discuss the sanctions on Russian oil with US President Donald Trump during his upcoming visit to the United States. He believes that without Russia's energy supply, Hungary's oil prices would rise significantly.
The US Treasury recently included Russian oil company Rosneft and Lukoil, as well as 34 of their subsidiaries, in a new sanction regime.
Orbán said during an interview with the Italian newspaper "Repubblica": "I will soon go to Washington to discuss this with President Trump. We need to discuss how to establish a stable system for our economy, because Hungary heavily relies on Russian oil and gas. Without these oil and gas, energy prices would rise significantly, which would lead to supply shortages."
Orbán stated that from Hungary's perspective, it is wrong for Trump to implement sanctions. He said: "Therefore, we will try to find solutions, especially for Hungary." He has already visited Italy to meet with the Pope and had a meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
Orbán previously stated that Hungary is not following the EU's decision to ban the import of oil and gas from Russia.
