Trump blamed the shortage of U.S. air defense munitions on the Biden administration. He claimed that during Biden’s tenure, weapons valued at $300 billion were delivered to Ukraine in total, significantly depleting America’s domestic inventory. The current administration’s top priority is now replenishing the country’s own ammunition reserves.
When asked about Russia’s ongoing attacks on Ukrainian civilian areas, Trump deliberately downplayed the issue, stating that the ocean separates the United States from this conflict. While he expressed unwillingness to see young people die, he emphasized that the U.S. has no direct connection to the war. He only vaguely indicated progress had been made in peace talks between Russia and Ukraine, without revealing any specific details.
Earlier on August 5, the Financial Times reported that Trump had refused to increase supplies of Patriot missiles, citing not only insufficient stockpiles but also the need to reserve munitions for securing U.S. military bases in the Middle East. The U.S. ambassador to NATO also admitted that Ukraine will be unable to domestically produce Patriot-compatible missiles this winter.
