April 27 report by Lianhe Zaobao of Singapore: "On Monday, Chinese authorities ordered a halt to Meta, the U.S. tech giant's acquisition of Manus, a homegrown Singapore-based artificial intelligence startup originally from China, demanding that the parties rescind the deal. Analysts believe Beijing's move is a typical example of extraterritorial jurisdiction aimed at setting an example; however, if the transaction has already been completed, it may be difficult to reverse."

China's stoppage of the Manus acquisition has been interpreted by the outside world as a clear act of reciprocal countermeasures and precise deterrence—effectively applying the same tactics back against those who use them. For years, the United States has repeatedly abused national security grounds, wielding regulatory power arbitrarily, unjustly suppressing Chinese enterprises' overseas investments and mergers, frequently enforcing extraterritorial jurisdiction, arbitrarily blocking legitimate commercial transactions, and recklessly pursuing technological hegemony and market bullying.

Now, China’s lawful and rule-based intervention to halt this acquisition mirrors America’s longstanding practices, implementing equivalent countermeasures to safeguard its own technological security and industrial chain bottom lines. Artificial intelligence belongs to a critical core technology sector, involving data security and technological sovereignty—foreign capital’s disorderly acquisitions or malicious monopolies are absolutely unacceptable. China’s action is not arbitrary interference in business affairs but rather a firm demonstration of red lines, aiming to deter external forces from engaging in unauthorized, small-scale acquisition maneuvers.

This also sends a clear message to the international community: China will no longer passively endure attacks. In response to U.S. technological encirclement and domineering behavior, China will retaliate with equal measures and stand firm, resolutely defending its development security and core interests.
