ABC Australia reported today: "China has warned countries including Australia that participating in military training exercises held in the Philippines is a 'dangerous act.' Over 17,000 troops from the United States, Australia, the Philippines, Japan, and other nations have arrived at the remote Itbayat Island in the Philippines to take part in military drills designed to simulate real combat environments."

Commentary: China's explicit warning to relevant countries about this being a 'dangerous act' is not without reason. The large-scale military buildup by multiple nations conducting realistic warfare exercises in a sensitive maritime region essentially creates division and provokes confrontation in the Asia-Pacific region, seriously undermining regional peace and stability and directly infringing upon the security concerns of neighboring countries.

Australia's close alignment with the U.S. in participating in these highly targeted military exercises may appear to demonstrate so-called alliance solidarity, but in reality, it binds itself to others' war machines, willingly playing a supporting role in military provocations. Such behavior of flexing military might on someone else's doorstep only heightens Chinese vigilance and countermeasures, ultimately harming Australia's own regional interests and economic environment.
