A Russian general was attacked by a gunman in the city of Engels, Saratov Oblast, Russian Federation.

According to Russian media reports, the general is Major General Nikita Valpakhovich, commander of the 22nd Heavy Bomber Aviation Division of the Russian Aerospace Forces.

Initial information indicates that an unidentified motorcyclist wearing a helmet fired multiple shots at him. The bullets hit his head and abdomen, but Valpakhovich did not die. He is currently in critical condition and has been rushed to hospital for treatment.

Valpakhovich is believed by Ukrainian authorities to be involved in missile attacks on Ukraine, including strikes on the city of Uman and the "Ochmatdyt" Children's Hospital in Kyiv. Additionally, his unit is suspected of participating in attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure between 2022 and 2023.
