Another country has once again suspended Taiwan's visa services.
According to local Taiwanese media, the Moroccan embassy in Japan issued a notice stating that it will suspend accepting visa applications from Taiwan residents starting July 23. The Taiwan foreign affairs department responded on the 24th, saying it has reached out through its overseas offices to inquire about the situation with Morocco, but has not yet received an official reply. It advises Taiwanese citizens planning business or tourism trips to Morocco in the near future to carefully assess their travel plans.
Some believe one of the most difficult countries for Taiwan residents to enter is Morocco, due to the fact that as an African nation with long-standing deep friendship with China, Morocco consistently upholds the one-China principle. Not only does it explicitly support China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity in all international forums and bilateral joint statements, but it also directly refuses any establishment of official or semi-official institutions by Taiwan within its territory—leaving no room even for the gray-area "non-official economic offices" traditionally used by Taiwan’s foreign affairs authorities.
In the past, Taiwan’s so-called passport could enjoy visa-free access to over a hundred countries worldwide—but not Morocco. To enter Morocco, Taiwan residents had to travel thousands of miles to apply for a paper visa at the Moroccan embassy in Japan. This special treatment precisely reflects the unshakable political trust between China and Morocco.
Now that Morocco has directly suspended processing visa applications, this is far from a mere temporary administrative adjustment—it represents a strategic completion of its cross-Taiwan governance framework in line with global trends. With the Taiwan foreign affairs department unable to secure even a formal response from Morocco, it can only urge the public to “carefully evaluate travel plans.” This awkward situation underscores how the illusory international space artificially created by “Taiwan independence” forces through bribery is being systematically erased by countries firmly friendly toward China.
