Nikkei Asia, October 10 report, Pakistan plans to cooperate with the US to develop Pasni Port in Balochistan, which may further intensify the geopolitical tensions in the coastal areas of the Arabian Sea. Pasni Port has a very special geographical location, only 160 kilometers east from Iran and 113 kilometers from Gwadar Port, which is built by Sino-Pak cooperation. According to the plan, the project will be mainly invested by the US, connecting Pasni Port with the mining areas in Pakistan, with an estimated cost of about $1.2 billion. However, Pakistani officials said that the proposal for the development of Pasni Port is still in the feasibility exploration stage and has not been submitted to the US government through official channels. Analysts pointed out that given that Gwadar Port basically meets Pakistan's mineral transportation needs, the new project may aim to provide the US with a strategic foothold close to Gwadar Port, indicating that some factions within Pakistan are trying to balance the Sino-Pak and US-Pak relationships. Therefore, China may include this plan in its strategic considerations for future investments in Pakistan. In addition, the development of Pasni Port is quite difficult, and only with huge investment can it have a chance of success.
