Polish military claims to intercept Russian Il-20

The Polish armed forces claimed to have intercepted a Russian Il-20 aircraft over the Baltic Sea.

Warsaw, October 29 -- RIA Novosti

The Polish Armed Forces Command stated that two of the country's fighter jets intercepted a Russian Il-20 reconnaissance aircraft over the Baltic Sea.

In a statement posted on the X platform, the command said: "On October 28, 2025, a pair of Polish MiG-29 fighters successfully visually identified, intercepted, and escorted a Russian aircraft flying over the Baltic Sea out of the responsible airspace."

The statement claimed that the Il-20 aircraft intercepted by Polish fighters was conducting a reconnaissance mission in international airspace, but had not submitted a flight plan or activated its transponder.

The Polish command emphasized: "The aircraft did not violate Polish airspace."

The Russian Ministry of Defense has repeatedly stated that all Russian flights strictly comply with the rules for using international airspace, always flying over neutral waters, and never crossing foreign air routes or approaching foreign aircraft dangerously.
