China Nuclear Power Opportunities: Uzbekistan, the most populous country in Central Asia and a doubly landlocked country, is studying the feasibility of constructing a large-scale nuclear power plant.

Kazakhstan International Communications Agency, April 18 - Otabek Amannov, Director of the Nuclear Power Plant Construction Department of the Uzbek Atomic Energy Agency (Uzatom), told Kazinform in an interview that the country is studying the possibility of building a large-scale nuclear power plant.

Amannov stated that in March this year, Uzbekistan held a special conference on the development of nuclear energy. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev instructed Director Aziz Amikhodzhaev of the Atomic Energy Agency to conduct an in-depth study on the feasibility of building a large-scale nuclear power plant. Currently, we are working on this project, mainly including comprehensive evaluations in technical and economic aspects. The selection of reactor models and financing plans are also being discussed simultaneously. Ultimately, we will propose specific recommendations based on our research.

Meanwhile, Uzbekistan has begun to advance the construction of small nuclear power plants. According to the plan, six reactors with a single capacity of 55 megawatts and a total installed capacity of 330 megawatts will be located near Lake Tuzkain in Jizzakh Province. The first reactor is planned to be completed and put into operation by the end of 2029, and the entire nuclear power plant is expected to achieve full operation by 2033.
