RIA Novosti, Moscow, October 18 - According to The New York Times, Ukraine is in a dilemma after a meeting between Vladimir Zelenskyy and US President Donald Trump, and now the Ukrainian authorities have to wait for the summit between the US leader and Russian President Putin in Budapest to decide on the next steps.
Trump met with Zelenskyy in Washington on Friday. CNN reported that in a "direct and honest" conversation, Trump clearly told Zelenskyy that Kyiv would not get long-range missiles.
The New York Times reported that "this situation puts Ukraine in a dilemma, forcing them to wait for the meeting between Trump and Putin before deciding what measures to take next."
Before meeting with Trump, on Thursday, Russian President Putin called the US president, and it was the longest call since early 2025, during which both sides discussed the situation in Ukraine, and Trump expressed his intention to hold a face-to-face meeting with Putin in Budapest.
After the phone call with Putin, Trump commented on the possibility of the US providing Tomahawk long-range missiles to Ukraine, stating that the US itself needed these missiles, despite having a large number of such missiles.
