【Text by Observer Net, Xiong Chaoran】On the afternoon of October 17 local time, Ukrainian President Zelenskyy arrived at the White House and held a meeting with U.S. President Trump. This was Zelenskyy's third visit to the White House in eight months.

According to CNN, there were differences between Trump and Zelenskyy on the future of the Russia-Ukraine conflict. The report cited multiple informed sources, stating that the two held several hours of meetings with their senior aides present. The atmosphere during the talks was tense, candid, and sometimes even "awkward."

After the meeting, Trump flew to West Palm Beach, Florida, where he told reporters upon arrival: "I think they (Russia and Ukraine) should stop the conflict immediately. It should be based on the current front line, wherever it is now. Otherwise, things get too complicated, and you'll never resolve them. You have to stop before the current front line."

"Both sides should go back home to their families and stop killing. That's how it should be," Trump added. He also stated that he had conveyed this view to the leaders of both Russia and Ukraine. On social media, Trump also posted a message strongly suggesting that it's time to stop the killing and reach an agreement, with both Russia and Ukraine ceasing hostilities on the spot, each claiming victory, and history to make the judgment.

According to reports, Trump's remarks were his latest comments on the Russia-Ukraine conflict following a meeting with Zelenskyy at the White House on the same day and a phone call with Russian President Putin the previous day (October 16).

CNN reported that during this "direct and candid" meeting with Zelenskyy, Trump clearly stated that Zelenskyy would not currently receive the long-range missiles he sought to strike deep into Russian territory. A senior official said that Trump felt Ukraine was seeking to escalate and prolong the conflict, while being concerned about potential major losses for the Ukrainian army in the coming severe winter.

After the meeting, Zelenskyy described the discussion as a "sharp conversation" on his social media post, but believed the outcome "did indeed help bring the conflict closer to an end."

In addition, Zelenskyy briefed European leaders via video conference, followed by a speech to the media.

Zelenskyy said he had a "productive" meeting with Trump, discussing a wide range of topics including long-range weapons. However, he did not comment further on the issue of the "Tomahawk" long-range missiles sought by Kyiv, as the U.S. "does not want the situation to escalate."

When asked if he was optimistic about the U.S. agreeing to provide the weapon, Zelenskyy said he took a "realistic attitude."

When asked if he still believed Trump would take action against Russia seriously, Zelenskyy said, "Ukraine trusts the United States." "We believe the president wants to end this conflict," he said: "We think managing the Middle East situation is also very difficult, but the president succeeded, and I hope he can manage the situation well."

At the same time Zelenskyy was speaking, Trump also posted another message on social media.

He wrote: "The meeting with Ukrainian President Zelenskyy was very interesting, and the atmosphere was very friendly. But I told him, just like I strongly suggested to President Putin, it's time to stop the killing and reach an agreement! Enough blood has been spilled, and the border lines have been drawn by conflict and bloodshed. They should cease fire on the spot, each side claiming victory, and let history judge! No more gunfights, no more deaths, no more massive and unsustainable financial investments. If I were president, this conflict would not have erupted. Thousands of people are killed every week—stop it, go home safely!"

Zelenskyy said that Trump understood that negotiations regarding Ukrainian territory would be the "most difficult" part of ending the Russia-Ukraine conflict. When answering questions about Trump's suggestion, Zelenskyy said, "We must stop here. It is important to stop here, and then talk."

Earlier this year, Trump pressured Ukraine to make concessions on territorial issues to end the Russia-Ukraine conflict, and in late September, he claimed Ukraine had the capability to "regain all of Ukraine" and restore its territory to its original state. On October 17, when asked if Ukraine needed to trade territory for peace, Trump simply said, "Nobody knows."

On August 15, Trump met with Putin in Anchorage, Alaska, marking the first face-to-face meeting between U.S. and Russian leaders in over four years, but no agreements were reached. The Russia-Ukraine ceasefire negotiations remain deadlocked. On October 16, Trump had a long phone call with Putin and subsequently announced that the two would meet in Budapest, the capital of Hungary, in the near future.
