Foreign media: A team of Chinese and American scientists has developed a robot launch system that uses the energy released by bubble rupture, which can be used for targeted drug delivery or exploring inaccessible spaces.

By rapidly heating light-absorbing materials with a laser, the water droplets around the surface boil and form steam bubbles. When the bubbles grow to a certain extent, they suddenly burst, releasing energy quickly and generating a strong thrust capable of launching millimeter-sized jumpers 1.5 meters (5 feet) into the air.

By controlling the flow of light, scientists can change the way and location these jumpers are launched from a wet surface, and also enable small material blocks to swim in water.

The research results were published in the journal Science on August 28, demonstrating that cavitation can serve as an efficient launch mechanism.
