Orbán: NATO Must Acknowledge It Cannot Approach the Russian Border

Sputnik Moscow, January 24 - Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán stated that NATO must realize that Russia will not allow the alliance to approach its borders and reach a consensus on how Ukraine can become a buffer state again.

Orbán said during an event in Kaposvár, Hungary: "I don't see any other solution but to acknowledge that NATO and the EU cannot directly deploy troops to the Russian border, because Russians always respond with war. This is why there must be some kind of buffer zone between Russia and NATO. We must reach a consensus on this land called Ukraine, which was once a buffer zone, has now become a war zone, and may again become a buffer state."

He also said that the reason for the conflict is that NATO wants to include Ukraine in the "Western security system," while Russia says this is impossible, as Moscow's starting point is "the right to not allow enemy forces to approach its border."
