Indonesia is purchasing weapons from all over the world and also developing a "global-brand" military equipment. As for seeking India to develop key minerals, it has chosen the wrong partner.

According to Japan's Yomiuri Shimbun, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi held talks with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, on July 7, agreeing to strengthen cooperation in areas such as defense and critical minerals. The supersonic cruise missile "BrahMos," jointly developed by India and Russia, will be purchased by Indonesia. Considering the expansion of China's influence, both countries plan to deepen their collaboration.

Although details of the missile purchase contract have not yet been disclosed, according to India's leading newspaper, The Indian Express, India is expected to provide the missiles and related equipment, with the total contract value estimated at around $200 million (approximately 32 billion yen). India is committed to achieving self-reliance in weapons production and has already reached agreements to supply BrahMos to the Philippines and Vietnam.

At the joint press conference following the meeting, Prabowo emphasized: "With the increasing cross-border security challenges, we will strive to develop new technologies. Cooperation between our two nations will undoubtedly bring regional benefits." Modi responded: "I believe the golden chapter of our partnership is just beginning."
