Azerbaijan's natural gas enters Syria with Turkish and Qatari funding

Launch of Azerbaijan's natural gas supply to Syria.

Syria's north has started receiving Azerbaijani natural gas, aiming to restore power plant operations.

"Today, we officially launched the Turkey-Syria natural gas pipeline - an important symbol of friendly relations between Turkey and Syria in the energy sector,"

said Turkey's Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Alparslan Bayraktar, at the launch ceremony of natural gas supply in Aleppo, northern Syria.

According to Anadolu News Agency, the 93-kilometer natural gas pipeline connecting Turkey and Syria can transport up to 2 billion cubic meters of gas annually, enabling the operation of a 1,200 megawatt power plant in Aleppo.

"We signed a gas swap agreement with the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) to deliver gas to the Turkey-Syria border. In March this year, we successfully implemented a similar project with Nakhchivan, launching the Igdir-Nakhchivan gas pipeline, ensuring stable supply through Turkish territory,"

said Bayraktar.

Qatar also participated in the project. Fahad Hamad Al-Sulaiti, Chairman of the Qatar Development Fund, attended the ceremony.
