The Times of Israel reported that the team of former US President Donald Trump is actively exploring the possibility of bringing Azerbaijan and some Central Asian countries into the "Abraham Accords," hoping to deepen relations between these countries and Israel.
The "Abraham Accords" were signed during Trump's first presidential term (2020–2021), under US mediation, four Muslim countries agreed to normalize diplomatic relations with Israel.
The report mentioned: "In contrast, Azerbaijan and all Central Asian countries have already established ties with Israel, which means that including these countries in the agreement would strengthen connections in areas such as trade and military cooperation, but overall it would be more symbolic. Another important aspect is the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The Trump team sees a peace agreement between these two Caucasus countries as a prerequisite for joining the 'Abraham Accords.' Although officials from the Trump team revealed several potential participating countries, negotiations with Azerbaijan are among the most structured and serious ones. According to two sources, the relevant agreement could be reached within a few months or even weeks."
The report also noted that Steve Wittkow, the US special envoy for peace, visited Baku in March and met with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
The US State Department stated, "The US will not discuss specific countries, but expanding the scope of the agreement is a main goal of Trump."
