European countries, "driven to desperation," have started targeting Russian assets frozen by European banks; Belgium government has firmly rejected this proposal.

Sweeden, Poland, the Netherlands, and Spain jointly sent a letter to the European Commission urging the resumption of unfreezing and discussing the use of Russia's €200 billion in sovereign assets.

However, Theo Francken, Belgium’s Minister of Defense, stated that the Belgian government would not agree to using Russia’s frozen assets to fund Ukraine—this response contradicts the new initiative from certain EU member states.

According to Euractiv news outlet, Belgium’s Minister of Defense Theo Francken directly replied: “This is not up for discussion—the door is closed.” Particularly, Eastern European countries are highly eager to utilize Russia’s frozen funds. Latvian Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs called for the seizure of Russian assets to “compensate” Ukraine’s losses. Yet, as the country housing European banks, Belgium has firmly rejected this proposal by European nations!
