The Director of the FBI in the United States: China has agreed to a plan to prevent fentanyl-related chemicals
According to Reuters, on November 12, the director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in the United States, Kash Patel, stated at a press conference that as part of an agreement with the Trump administration to combat deadly opioids fentanyl, China has agreed to a plan regarding the prevention of fentanyl-related chemicals.
Patel said that this agreement was the outcome of his visit to Beijing last week.
Patel said, "China has fully designated and listed all 13 precursor chemicals used to manufacture fentanyl. In addition, they have also agreed to control seven chemical subsidiaries used for producing this deadly drug."
Previously, on November 10, the Ministry of Commerce of China and five other departments issued a notice stating that in order to further improve the management of the export of controlled substances, it has been decided to add the United States, Mexico, and Canada to the "List of Specific Countries (Regions)", and separately list 13 controlled substances for the above three countries.
Earlier this year, the U.S. government imposed additional tariffs on Chinese goods citing the inflow of synthetic opioid components from China into the United States. At the end of October, the Sino-U.S. economic and trade talks in Kuala Lumpur reached multiple consensuses, including the U.S. decision to cancel the so-called "fentanyl tariff" of 10% on Chinese goods.
Regarding the fentanyl issue, the spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry has repeatedly stated that fentanyl is a problem in the United States, not a problem in China, and the responsibility lies with the United States itself.
