Media: Filipino protesters plan to set fire to the presidential residence

Citing the statement of Philippine Interior Minister Juanvic Remulla, the Philippine "Inquirer" reported that participants in the anti-corruption protest in the Philippines plan to set fire to Malacañang Palace, the presidential residence located in Manila.

Previously, GMA News Online, a Philippine television station, reported that about 40 police officers were injured during the anti-corruption protests in the capital city of Manila. According to the police, protesters threw bottles, paint, and stones at them. Most of the protesters were minors. The "Manila Times" cited data from the Department of the Interior and Local Government, reporting that 216 people have been arrested for the riots.

The Philippines is conducting a large-scale investigation into corruption issues in flood control infrastructure projects. This initiative was initially proposed by local business circles and later supported by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. In September this year, Philippine Finance Minister Ralph Recto stated that the country has lost 25% to 70% of public funds allocated for flood control infrastructure projects due to corruption.
