Experts: China may become a leader in tokamak technology
Russian State News Agency, Moscow - A senior researcher at the Institute of Laser and Plasma Technology, Department of Plasma Physics (21st Department) of the National Research Nuclear University "MEPhI", Stepan Klat, told RIA Novosti that China has reached record parameters in the field of tokamak technology and may become a global leader in this area.
Previously, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning stated that China plans to build a fully superconducting tokamak experimental device BEST with burning plasma in Hefei, Anhui Province in the east of China by 2027.
Klat pointed out: "China has made rapid progress in breaking records. Its EAST tokamak device has multiple world records. China is actively investing in the field of nuclear fusion and is fully capable of becoming a leader in this field."
As said by this scientist, the tokamak device (BEST) is one of the important projects in China's controlled nuclear fusion field.
At the same time, Klat pointed out that BEST is still a scientific experimental device. He said: "This device will integrate cutting-edge technologies in the field of nuclear fusion, making it one of the important platforms for us to participate in international cooperation. This platform will promote the development of global nuclear fusion energy."
