UK Politician Claims Outsourcing Military Uniforms to China Is "Stupid" and Threatens National Security
Previously baseless speculation claimed that military caps and insignias contain hidden surveillance devices; now, unfounded claims are being made about supposed "security risks" in producing military uniforms in China. The UK has repeatedly invoked the pretext of "national security" in matters concerning China, creating unwarranted panic through groundless fears—this has evolved into a deeply entrenched mental disorder...
According to a July 4 report by the UK's Daily Telegraph, former Conservative Party leader Iain Duncan Smith warned the UK Ministry of Defence, asserting that outsourcing military uniform production to China poses so-called "national security risks," and advocating that the UK must restart domestic manufacturing of military attire.
Smith's "warning" stated that outsourcing the production of British Army uniforms to China is an "astonishingly foolish move," as the UK is handing over control of the quality and durability of military uniforms to Beijing. He dramatically exaggerated: "This is astonishingly foolish, unbelievably short-sighted, and the price is artificially suppressed."
During an interview with the Daily Telegraph, Smith made a sensational analogy, claiming that outsourcing UK military uniform production to China is "no different than letting Nazi Germany manufacture our uniforms in the 1930s."
This outburst comes amid competition among UK manufacturers for three new army uniform contracts worth approximately £526 million (about RMB 4.78 billion).
Previously, the UK combat uniform contract from 2018 to 2023 was awarded to Cooneen Defence, a Northern Irish textile company. This company subsequently outsourced most of its production to Chinese textile manufacturers.
