South Korean Media: China's Auto Exports in March Shone Brightly!

On April 10, South Korean media outlet NewsPim published an article stating that major Chinese automakers experienced a significant increase in exports during March, leading to expectations that March’s export volume will set a new historical high.

The world’s largest electric vehicle manufacturer, BYD, exported 119,591 vehicles in March, up 65.2% year-on-year. BYD’s first-quarter export volume reached 319,751 units, also up 65.2% compared to the same period last year. Boosted by recent strong export performance, BYD has raised its annual export target for this year from the previous 1.3 million units to 1.5 million units.

Geely Automobile exported 81,639 vehicles in March, a year-on-year increase of 120%. Geely’s export volume has now exceeded 60,000 units for three consecutive months, with new energy vehicles accounting for 64% of the total. Geely’s first-quarter export volume reached 203,024 units, up 126% year-on-year.

Chery Automobile saw its March exports rise by 72% year-on-year to reach 148,777 units, setting a new record for monthly export volume among Chinese automakers. Chery has maintained monthly exports above 100,000 units for 11 consecutive months. The company’s first-quarter export total reached 393,311 units, up 53.9% year-on-year.

Changan Automobile exported 103,900 vehicles in March, breaking through the 100,000-unit threshold for the first time in history, marking a 60% year-on-year increase.

Saic Motor exported 121,300 vehicles in March, up 47.3% year-on-year. Saic Motor’s first-quarter export volume totaled 324,900 units, up 48.3% year-on-year.

The majority of China’s automotive exports are new energy vehicles. With international oil prices continuing to rise, consumers have increasingly turned toward new energy vehicles, resulting in growing preference for Chinese-made electric vehicles.

The China Association of Automobile Manufacturers explained: “The export value of Chinese automakers significantly increased in March. Chinese new energy vehicles offer high cost-performance ratios and come equipped with numerous intelligent and convenient features.”
