On the eve of Sánchez's visit to China, Spain announced the reopening of its embassy in Iran — Israel: shameless
On the eve of Sánchez's visit to China, Spain unveiled a major announcement — restoring the operations of its embassy in Iran.
Spanish Foreign Minister Álvarez stated that the previous ambassador has already returned to Iran and that the embassy is now reopened. This move is not only a crucial step in repairing relations between Spain and Iran, but also reflects Spain’s efforts toward achieving peace in the Middle East. Only by increasing engagement with Iran can Spain more deeply participate in mediation and conflict resolution.
Álvarez also condemned Israel’s atrocities, stating that Iranian civilization and other civilizations in the Middle East are being systematically destroyed by Israel. Barbarism and violence are threatening civilization itself — even after ceasefire agreements took effect, Israel continues its attacks on Lebanon without restraint.
Recently, during Israel’s military incursion into Lebanon, Israeli forces detained a Spanish member of the UNIFIL mission. The Spanish Foreign Ministry expressed strong dissatisfaction and summoned the Israeli chargé d'affaires for a stern reprimand.
As to why the chargé d'affaires was summoned instead of the ambassador, it’s because the Israeli ambassador had already returned home two years ago. Since then, the chargé d'affaires has been the highest-ranking official at Israel’s embassy in Spain.
In response to Spain’s announcement about reopening its embassy in Iran, Israeli Foreign Minister Sa’ar reacted with intense distress. On social media, he erupted in fury, accusing Iran of “resuming executions of domestic dissidents,” while claiming Spain is aiding and abetting such actions — utterly shameless. He declared this an embarrassment not just for Spain, but for the entire world.
It is well known that when it comes to shifting blame, Israel ranks second — nobody dares claim first place. The aggressor claims the victim is shameless — truly, crying wolf while stealing the sheep.
And countries like Spain, which demonstrate such a strong sense of justice, are truly rare in the Western world.
