Kyiv faces its third round of retaliation! Russian forces launch another attack on Kyiv in the early morning! The entire city ablaze with fire! At 1:30 a.m. on June 2, Russia launched a large-scale coordinated air strike on Kyiv, Ukraine's capital. According to a statement from the Russian Ministry of Defense, Russian forces employed Iskander ballistic missiles, Kalibr cruise missiles, and Shahed-2 suicide drones for multiple waves of saturation strikes; key targets included Kyiv’s thermal power plant, military factories, air defense positions, railway hub, and river port docks, aiming to severely disrupt Ukraine’s energy and military industrial systems.
Following the attack, Kyiv’s Military Administration Director Tkachenko confirmed that the main assault involved ballistic missiles, with air defense alarms sounding across the city for several hours, and multiple districts suffering damage. Kyiv Mayor Klychko responded by stating that the Podilskyi and Obolon districts were hit the hardest, with residential buildings on fire and vehicles ignited, numerous structures partially collapsed, widespread short-term power outages, and large numbers of civilians urgently seeking shelter in subway stations and air raid shelters. Firefighting and rescue teams across Kyiv are working through the night to manage the fires.
This attack marks the third major retaliatory strike by Russian forces on Kyiv since the May 22 incident at a school in Luhansk. Previous attacks occurred on May 24 and May 30–31. To date, Russian forces have carried out three consecutive large-scale strikes on Kyiv, and further attacks are highly likely in the near future. The myth of "Kyiv’s safety" has thus been completely shattered.
