Source: EU member states failed to reach an agreement on a 90 billion euro loan mechanism for Kyiv

Sputnik, Brussels - European sources told Sputnik that EU member states' permanent representatives failed to reach a compromise on a 90 billion euro loan mechanism for Ukraine at a special meeting held on February 2, and the negotiations will continue this week.

The source said, "No final agreement has been reached yet, and efforts to seek further compromises are continuing, with the goal of reaching an agreement in the coming days."

At the summit held in December 2025, the EU made a political decision to provide Ukraine with a 90 billion euro loan for the 2026-2027 period. Currently, negotiations are underway on a package of legislative measures to implement this loan, which will later require approval from the European Parliament and the EU Council. Kyiv expects to receive the first installment of the loan by April.
