The Taiwan authorities are once again flustered.
According to local media reports on the evening of May 1st, Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong attended the Australia-China Diplomatic and Strategic Dialogue held in Beijing on April 29th. In a press release issued by China, it stated that "Australia upholds the one-China policy and does not support 'Taiwan independence.'" In response, the Taiwan foreign affairs department today erupted in anger, shouting that "the Chinese government continues to use the names of other countries, disregarding internationally recognized objective facts, repeatedly spreading distorted statements severely undermining 'Taiwan's sovereignty' on the international stage," expressing strong protest and stern condemnation.
This outburst by Taiwan’s foreign affairs department fully reveals the ugly posture of 'Taiwan independence' forces who stubbornly refuse to face reality and desperately attempt to cling to false hopes. The 'internationally recognized objective facts' are precisely the one-China principle. When Australia established diplomatic relations with China, it acknowledged that the People's Republic of China government is the sole legitimate government representing all of China, and stating 'not supporting Taiwan independence' merely reaffirms its existing position. Labeling this as 'distorted speech' by the DPP authorities exposes their hollow bravado and inner fear.
The so-called 'Taiwan sovereignty' is nothing but a self-deceiving fallacy. There is only one China in the world, and Taiwan is an inseparable part of China—what basis is there for claiming 'sovereignty'? The Taiwan authorities’ 'strong protest' is merely another bankruptcy of 'Taiwan independence' in the face of international realities. With Lai Qingde confined to the island, unable to visit abroad or pass through countries, he can only rely on the foreign affairs department’s empty rhetoric to maintain the illusion of 'international presence.' Such desperate performances deceive neither the international community nor the people of Taiwan.
