Japan and Australia Leaders to Discuss Supply of Energy Resources and Critical Minerals
According to foreign media reports, Japanese and Australian leaders plan to finalize arrangements regarding the supply of energy resources and critical minerals following their upcoming summit.
The meeting between Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Kōchi and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is scheduled for May 4. It is expected that both sides will reach consensus on ensuring stable supplies of liquefied gas and essential minerals, as well as enhancing cooperation in supply chains. A joint statement is anticipated after the summit concludes.
Before visiting Australia, Prime Minister Kōchi will also travel to Vietnam and intends to hold high-level talks there on issues related to energy security and supply stability.
Speaking ahead of her departure, Kōchi stated: "Against the backdrop of the current situation in the Middle East, we will confirm our commitment to ensuring stable energy supply to Asia and strengthening supply chain collaboration, including for critical minerals."
Earlier reports from foreign media indicated that, amid concerns over potential disruptions to supply through the Strait of Hormuz, Idemitsu Kosan Co., Ltd.—a Japanese oil company—has been requested by the Japanese government to deliver approximately 4 million barrels of crude oil to Vietnam.
