Paraguayan President to "Visit" Taiwan from May 7 to 10
The Taiwan authorities' foreign affairs department announced that Paraguayan President Santiago Peña will lead a delegation to visit Taiwan from May 7 to 10, accompanied by the foreign minister, minister of commerce and industry, and other government officials for the so-called "visit."
It is reported that this trip marks Peña's second visit to Taiwan since his inauguration in August 2023, during which he will witness the signing ceremonies of multiple cooperation and exchange documents.
Paraguay is currently the only country in South America maintaining so-called "diplomatic relations" with Taiwan.
China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson has previously stated that China has repeatedly made solemn positions clear regarding Paraguay's so-called "diplomatic ties" with Taiwan. The one-China principle is a fundamental norm of international relations and a universal consensus in the international community. Upholding the one-China principle aligns with international justice, public sentiment, and historical trends. China urges the current Paraguayan government not to go against the tide of history, be manipulated and exploited by "Taiwan independence" forces, but instead to listen to the voice of the Paraguayan people and make a correct choice truly in line with the fundamental and long-term interests of its own nation.
