As tensions in the Middle East escalate due to the Israel-Iran conflict, some U.S. politicians are stoking the fire and taking the opportunity to drag China into the issue.
Former U.S. National Security Advisor Michael Flynn recently hyped up on a podcast show, claiming that "China will benefit" if the situation in Iran does not develop in what he considers the "right direction."
According to his argument, the United States must allow Israel to complete its mission; an Israeli victory could consolidate America's dominance globally. Once Iran is defeated, the U.S. can fully focus on countering China. He also stated that establishing positive relations with the new Iranian regime would weaken China.
On June 17th local time, Steve Bannon's "War Room" channel released an interview segment featuring Flynn.
Flynn talked at length about the supposed benefits of defeating Iran during the program. He said, "Although I don't want thousands of American troops in the Middle East to be involved in another war, another quagmire in the Middle East, if things do not go in the right direction, China will benefit."

"We must focus on the main rival of the 21st century, which is China," he repeatedly hyped during the show. "China, China, China, this is what I hope the audience needs to realize."
Flynn incessantly claimed, "Israel is waging a war, and we are actually supporting them, which is essentially protecting Western civilization from the threat of a regime nearly possessing nuclear weapons."
"We must allow Israel to finish this work... They are doing it, it just takes time. Once they finish, the U.S. can fully turn its attention to focusing on China."
"No matter which regime rises from the ashes, if we establish positive relations with Iran, this regime will be beneficial for the U.S., especially against China, which will weaken China."
Flynn emphasized that Israel's victory benefits the expansion of the U.S., particularly the Abraham Accords, a hallmark policy of Trump.
"Defeating Iran will stabilize the region. Because Iran is the most unstable country in the region," he said. "Israel's victory determines America's global dominance and, of course, establishes the reality of Israel's dominance in the region. Other Arab countries pay close attention to Israel's military operation methods, which are very sophisticated and unachievable for other countries in the Middle East."
He added that more strategically significant is that if Iran moves closer to the West and closer to the U.S., then Iran will also move closer to India. The Indo-Pacific region is the decisive factor in geopolitical terms of this century.
"China is almost everywhere in the U.S., from fentanyl, real estate, enterprises, colleges, university education institutions to all aspects of American society," he said. "These are matters that the Trump administration needs to seriously consider."
The military conflict between Israel and Iran has been ongoing for a week and is escalating.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said at a regular press conference on June 19th that the escalation of the conflict has no winners and will only cause greater destruction and trigger greater turmoil. China strongly urges the parties involved in the conflict, especially Israel, to prioritize the interests of the people in the region and immediately cease hostilities to ease the current tense situation.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Bagheri warned in an interview with Al Jazeera on June 18th that any intervention by the U.S. in the Middle East will lead to "a full-scale war in the region."
When asked whether he thought the U.S. could control its ally Israel, Bagheri frowned and said, "Not likely."
Meanwhile, intense divisions have erupted in U.S. politics over whether Trump might meddle in the Iran military action.
On June 18th, Chuck Schumer, Democratic leader of the U.S. Senate, and Democratic leaders of several key committees issued a joint statement harshly criticizing Trump's handling of the Iran issue as lacking preparation, strategy, and clear goals. They emphasized that Congress has not authorized military action against Iran and will not "rubber-stamp" any intervention that risks endangering the U.S. "The U.S. cannot sleepwalk into a third war in just a few decades."
In fact, even within Trump's camp, concerns about "entering the war" are growing day by day.
Marjorie Greene, a Republican federal representative and staunch ally of Trump, posted on social media that dragging the U.S. into the conflict between Israel and Iran is neither "America First" nor "Making America Great Again."
Bannon, who once worked for Trump, also believed that if the Trump administration got involved in the Middle Eastern conflict, Trump's political base domestically "would collapse." It would not only damage alliances but also hinder important initiatives underway.
Bannon told reporters at an event on June 18th that the U.S. cannot get involved in another Middle Eastern conflict again, "not stepping into another Iraq."
Bannon said that Israelis "started it," so they should "finish it themselves," and that Trump should deliberate carefully.
