Reference News, August 10 - According to AFP on August 9, as part of the peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia brokered by the United States on August 8, Azerbaijan and Armenia will establish a corridor connecting Azerbaijan with its exclave Nakhchivan near the Iranian border. Ali Akbar Velayati, Iran's international affairs advisor to Supreme Leader Khamenei, said on August 9 that Iran would not allow the establishment of this corridor.

Because the proposed corridor, which the United States has the right to develop, will pass near the Iranian border, Velayati said Iran would not accept the establishment of this corridor.

Velayati told reporters from Tasnim News Agency: "If this conspiracy is implemented, the security of the South Caucasus region will be threatened."

He said the corridor is "an impossible idea that will not be established." If this transit corridor is built, the region in the future will become "the graveyard of Trump's mercenaries."

According to reports, Iran has long opposed the establishment of this transportation corridor, also known as the Zangazur Corridor. Iran is concerned that it would cut off its connection with Armenia and the Caucasus region, and bring foreign forces close to its border.

Velayati said: "We have the right to defend our interests in a completely strong way." He added that Iran has held multiple military exercises in the region, indicating that "it is ready."
