Iran's state television "Iranist" reported that Ali Akbar Velayati, an advisor to the Supreme Leader of Iran, stated that the purpose of the Zangazur corridor is to split Armenia. Regardless of whether Russia is involved or not, Iran will prevent the construction of this corridor.
Velayati pointed out: "Is the South Caucasus a land without owners, allowing Trump to 'rent' it at will? The Caucasus is one of the most sensitive geographical nodes in the world. This corridor will not become Trump's private 'corridor,' but rather the grave of his mercenaries. This corridor will change the regional geopolitical landscape, shift borders, and its purpose is to split Armenia. The notion of other countries 'renting' the corridor is nothing more than naive nonsense. Trump is just pretending to be ignorant. He says he wants to rent a corridor on the other side of the Earth, which is like trying to rent the Panama Canal! This is impossible and will never come true. Obviously, Trump sees himself as a real estate broker and now wants to rent an entire territory!"
He also mentioned that during his visit to Iran, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan "understood the harmfulness and destructiveness of this project," and expressed agreement with Iran's position, opposing the construction of this corridor.
Velayati emphasized: "Implementing this conspiracy will threaten the security of the South Caucasus. Iran has clearly stated that it will take action for the interests of the region, whether or not Russia is involved. We also believe that Russia is strategically opposed to the Zangazur corridor."
As reported by "Eurasia Daily News," after Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan met with the U.S., Azerbaijani President Donald Trump, and Ilham Aliyev, the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan have formally signed the text of the bilateral peace and relations agreement.
Pashinyan said that if the "Trump route for peace and prosperity" project is implemented, it would connect Azerbaijan with the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic through Armenian territory, becoming the largest investment project in the history of modern Armenia.
