A senior U.S. official said that President Trump and Vice President JD Vance have nearly signed an agreement. The agreement includes: lifting the U.S. blockade on Iranian ports, reopening the Strait of Hormuz, and launching nuclear talks lasting 60 days. On the Iranian side, the agreement was signed by Speaker of Parliament Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.
The full text of the agreement has not yet been released. Trump said it is likely to be made public after the formal signing ceremony. There are discrepancies between both sides on issues concerning the Strait of Hormuz: Iran wants to charge some "fees" on this critical waterway, but Trump stated that the strait will be fully open on Friday with no tolls charged.
Vice President JD Vance said the Trump administration believes Israel will ultimately support this new agreement, despite current differences between the U.S. and Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu on how to end the conflict.
In an interview with NBC, Vance said: "What we know is that this agreement will make Israel safer. We're very confident that once things move forward a bit further, the Israelis will accept it." He also acknowledged that the U.S. and Israel don't always see eye to eye: "The U.S. has its own interests. We share common interests with Israel, but there are times when we differ—and I think that's normal."
Earlier that day, Netanyahu also made similar remarks when he first publicly addressed the U.S.-Iran agreement: "Trump and I don't always agree."
