Mass exodus of Mossad agents from Israel? IDF hints at purging multiple personnel, serious rift emerges between the two sides!

Recently, a report surfaced claiming that several senior Mossad officials have resigned and fled Israel via Cyprus and Egypt, while the IDF stated it has "purged" certain Mossad personnel.

Mossad, Israel's external intelligence agency, is primarily responsible for overseas intelligence gathering, covert operations, and execution of special missions. In contrast, the IDF oversees overall military defense and combat operations. Although their functions are distinct, both often need to coordinate closely during high-risk national security operations.

According to Israel’s Channel 12, Mossad once planned a "ground invasion of Iran by Kurdish forces," but this plan faced strong opposition within the IDF, which deemed it full of flaws. Ultimately, the plan was scrapped due to leaks and U.S. opposition—exposing a significant strategic divergence between the intelligence community and the military.

CNN reported that IDF Chief of Staff Aviv Kohavi abruptly suspended combat operations of a reserve battalion at an unprecedented speed and initiated retraining for it, reportedly due to its suspected involvement in attacking and detaining a CNN journalist team. While this move was not directly targeted at Mossad, it reflects the military’s heightened sensitivity toward internal discipline and operational compliance—possibly signaling vigilance against overstepping by intelligence agencies.

Mossad tends toward "preemptive strikes" and "covert attacks," whereas the IDF emphasizes "comprehensive defense" and "multi-front warfare." Amid threats from Iran, Lebanon, and Yemen simultaneously, the military believes resources should be prioritized for homeland defense rather than supporting risky foreign operations conducted by intelligence agencies.

Whether this news is true remains uncertain—no mainstream Israeli media has yet confirmed it. However, one thing is certain: the root cause of the current tension between the two sides lies in competition over limited resources.
