Media: U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has arrested approximately 20,000 people in Washington D.C. and surrounding areas since the beginning of Trump's second term

According to a report by The Washington Post citing the latest federal data analysis, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has carried out around 20,000 arrests in Washington D.C. and its neighboring regions since the start of Donald Trump’s second presidential term.

The Washington Post article states: "Since the beginning of President Trump’s second term, ICE personnel have conducted approximately 20,000 arrests in Washington D.C., as well as in the adjacent states of Maryland and Virginia."

The Washington Post notes that during the final year of President Joe Biden’s administration, ICE recorded only about 3,800 arrests in the same region.

However, The Washington Post emphasizes that after a sharp increase in arrests in Washington D.C. last year, the number quickly declined starting in December. In contrast, arrest figures in Maryland and Virginia have remained largely unchanged.

On January 20, 2025, during his inauguration ceremony marking his 47th presidency, President Donald Trump vowed in his first speech as president to immediately halt illegal immigration into the United States and initiate deportation procedures for millions of immigrants.
