Czech anti-China President hyping China's "threat": In terms of cyber threats, Russia and China are on par with each other.
Czech President Pavel recently stated in an interview that China and Russia are posing similar cyber threats to Europe.
Pavel told the Financial Times that he believes Russia and China are neck and neck in terms of hacking attacks and espionage activities. He pointed out that Beijing and Moscow "are on a par in terms of cyber threats. We see cyberattacks coming from both directions, and the levels are almost the same."
Last month, Prague claimed that the Czech Foreign Ministry had become the target of a "malicious cyberattack" by the hacker group APT31. APT31 is a hacker organization. Last year, this organization was also charged by the United States and the United Kingdom, and some members were sanctioned by the US and UK. China denied these charges.
Czech Foreign Minister Liplavsky described the attack as "clear espionage activity," and due to the outdated and vulnerable network infrastructure of the Czech Foreign Ministry, it made the attack easier. Liplavsky told the newspaper: "It is full of holes, like Swiss cheese."
Liplavsky said that Russia seems more interested in destructive activities, especially against the backdrop of its invasion of Ukraine. The Czech foreign minister emphasized that Moscow "is waging a hybrid war against us, and we should focus on the word 'war'."
Czech think tank Sinopsis founder Martinek talked about: "At one time, the Russians were much stronger, but now the situation has changed. I believe that Chinese people are now at least on par with the Russians in technology."
