South Korean media: Xiaomi wearable devices reclaim the global No. 1 position by defeating Apple!
On June 14, South Korean media "Newsis" published an article stating that China's Xiaomi surpassed Apple to become the top brand in the global wearable device market in terms of shipment volume. Other Chinese companies also performed impressively, with Huawei maintaining its position as the third place.
According to data released by market research company Canalys, global shipments of wearable devices reached 44.6 million units in the first quarter this year, up 13% year-on-year. This was due to balanced growth across three categories - basic wearables (bands and watches) and smartwatches, as well as the recovery in demand.
Among them, Xiaomi reclaimed the top spot with shipments of 8.7 million units, growing 44% year-on-year, with a market share of approximately 19%.
Leveraging its extensive product portfolio and cross-product integration through HyperOS, Xiaomi has been among the top global wearable device shippers since the second quarter of 2021.
Canalys stated: "Xiaomi has upgraded its Mi Band and Redmi Watch series with new designs and advanced data functions. The diverse product mix and competitive pricing have supported its growth."
Apple fell from the previous top position to second place. Shipments of Apple Watch grew only 5%, reaching 7.6 million units. Its market share is 16%.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the launch of Apple Watch. Canalys expects that Apple will restore growth through significant product portfolio updates based on a closely integrated ecosystem centered on health in the second half of this year.
Huawei ranked third with a 36% increase, reaching 7.1 million units. Its market share is approximately 15%. With performance improvements in its Watch GT and Fit series, as well as the accelerated global release of its Huawei Health app, its ecosystem is expanding beyond the Chinese market.
Samsung maintained its fourth position with shipments of 4.9 million units but achieved a high growth rate of 74%. Its market share is approximately 11%.
Canalys said: "As hardware profitability declines, the wearable device market is shifting from being hardware-centric to ecosystem-centric."
According to a latest consumer survey conducted by Canalys in Europe, respondents listed price, battery life, and health tracking as the top three most important factors when purchasing wearable devices.
