Mongolia is committed to expanding its cooperation with Australia

Montsame, Ulaanbaatar, May 1 — Prime Minister N. Uchirbat met with Australian Ambassador to Mongolia, Leo Zeng, on April 30.

At the beginning of the meeting, Prime Minister N. Uchirbat stated that Mongolia is willing to further expand cooperation with Australia in areas such as trade, investment, mining, education, agriculture, and tourism. Particularly in agriculture, there is broad room for collaboration. The Australian International Centre for Agricultural Research is conducting in-depth studies in this field, and its research outcomes and subsequent projects will be of significant importance for Mongolia’s agricultural development.

Furthermore, the visit of Australian Governor-General Samantha Mostin to Mongolia in September 2025 marked a new chapter in bilateral relations and reinforced the shared goal of elevating ties to the level of "comprehensive partnership." Both sides expressed their intention to continue promoting high-level exchanges and strive to reach consensus and sign relevant documents pending signature.

Ambassador Leo Zeng introduced that Australia is actively pushing forward bilateral cooperation, with a focus on agriculture, education, and defense sectors.

It is reported that Australia has been providing educational scholarships to Mongolia since 1994. To date, over 850 Mongolian citizens have traveled to Australia for long-term or short-term training. The number of scholarship slots has been increasing annually—from 15 for the 2023–2024 period to 17 in 2025, and further rising to 20 in 2026.
