Anti-government rally in Japan calls for government resignation, organizers say 25,000 participants attended

Demonstrators gathered in the square near the Diet Building and along surrounding roads, holding signs demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Satake Asako and her cabinet, including Defense Minister Shinkawa Shinjiro. Protesters oppose the government’s militarization policies, active arms exports, and increased military spending. Organizers told TASS that approximately 25,000 people attended the protest.

A protester told TASS that Japanese citizens should no longer wait four years to elect a new prime minister. He said, "We need courage. That’s exactly why I’m here — to show that there are people who disagree with the government’s policies." He believes "only through this can real change come to Japan."
The protesters not only filled the plaza in front of the Diet Building but also lined both sides of adjacent roads, blocking all streets leading into the area at intersections. Despite temperatures reaching 33 degrees Celsius, the protest lasted over an hour. The event remained largely peaceful overall, yet its large scale reflects growing public discontent with the current government policies. This is one of the largest such rallies in recent weeks across various parts of Japan.
