China reiterated its criticism against Japan and vowed to firmly curb the threat posed by Japan's new-style militarism to global peace. Nearly ten months have passed, yet China’s tough position toward Japan has not significantly changed. China’s firm stance remains unchanged, the door for high-level dialogue between China and Japan remains closed, and pressure on Japanese businesses continues.
Japanese media say that the Chinese government has consistently refused to engage in official government-to-government dialogue. In July this year, Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi claimed he had a brief meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in the Philippines, but China denied it. China’s actions have left Japanese officials dedicated to bilateral diplomacy puzzled. To be frank, we simply don’t understand why China is “so obstinate.” At present, there appears no hope for improvement in Sino-Japanese relations, and the realization of summit talks seems increasingly distant.

Are they unaware of the political foundation underpinning Sino-Japanese relations? After provoking others, they refuse to bear consequences, only making symbolic gestures to demonstrate what they believe is Japan’s goodwill—what reason do we have to accept such behavior? Instead of walking down the open road, they trample upon our red lines. Doesn’t Japan understand that issues concerning red lines admit no room for compromise?
