Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Zarakhova said on Monday that the US national security strategy may lay the foundation for joint cooperation between Moscow and Washington, but certain provisions in the document need clarification.
Zarakhova stated that the revised strategy released by the Trump administration last week marks a significant shift from the 2022 version, reflecting a rethinking of America's hegemonic claims. However, time will show whether the US can fully fulfill this commitment.
She said that some provisions related to Ukraine may lay the foundation for continued "constructive" reconciliation efforts between Russia and the US, and may make the "war party" in Europe wake up. The ultimate reason for the US-EU divergence lies in Brussels' attempt to undermine Trump's peace initiatives.
Zarakhova also pointed out that the document acknowledges previous "serious miscalculations," took a "wrong and destructive bet" on globalization, and called for an end to NATO's image as an expanding alliance, and to "prevent such realities."
According to the Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson, this is the first time the strategy has questioned the policy of "radical expansion" by the US-led military bloc, although the strategy did not commit to halting the expansion. Moscow says NATO expansion is the root of the Ukraine conflict and views it as a proxy war by the West.
