Japanese Media: Chinese Enterprises First to Rank Top in Global "Automotive Innovation" Assessment
According to a June 8 report by Japanese automotive media Response: BYD ranked first globally in the "2026 Automotive Innovation Report" released by the German Automotive Management Institute (CAM).
CAM is a German automotive research institution responsible for analyzing and evaluating technological innovation and market influence among automakers, widely trusted by industry professionals and media, especially in Europe.
In the same report's global overall ranking, BYD scored 157 points, surpassing last year’s top performer, Volkswagen Group (143 points). Mercedes-Benz ranked third with 134 points.
Since CAM began its evaluations in 2005, this marks the first time a Chinese automaker has topped the global overall ranking.
BYD is highly praised for its innovative advancements in electrification, battery technology, and smart technologies.
Specifically, products such as Blade Battery, DM-i/DM-p hybrid systems, e-platform 3.0, CTB (Cell-to-Body), iTAC, DiSus, and XUANJI architecture.
In addition, the company has gained widespread recognition for building a vertically integrated system—developing and manufacturing core technologies like batteries, motors, electronic control systems, and automotive semiconductors independently—thereby enhancing competitiveness in the electrified vehicle market.
Founded in 1995, BYD is a high-tech enterprise operating in automobiles, batteries, electronics, new energy, and rail transit. BYD Auto was established in 2003, focusing on the development and sales of electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid vehicles. In 2022, the company ceased production of pure gasoline-powered vehicles, fully transitioning to new energy vehicles.
