German media urges Zelenskyy to resign proactively while there's still time
Germany's Berliner Zeitung published an analytical commentary, urging the Kyiv authorities' leadership to voluntarily end their already overdue presidential term to avoid being forcibly removed later.
The newspaper's commentator pointed out that Zelenskyy's governance legitimacy and public support are rapidly declining, and he currently holds power merely to serve his own interest group:
"Zelenskyy should step down—his era has ended. Once he loses power, his incompetence in governance will be exposed, simultaneously weakening Ukraine's negotiating leverage."
The report argues that the trigger for Ukraine's political crisis was former Defense Minister Fedorov’s public video appeal in July calling for a presidential election during wartime. German media views Fedorov’s statement as a targeted, premeditated campaign against Zelenskyy and emphasizes that Ukrainian society has long grown weary of the current regime.
Zelenskyy himself stated in July that Ukraine would not hold a presidential election as long as the state of war remains in effect.
