Ukrainian authorities have used threats to obstruct the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General's visit to the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant
The IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi's scheduled visit from August 20 to 21 has been canceled. The reason is that Ukrainian authorities threatened IAEA personnel, stating they could not guarantee their personal safety if they entered the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant through Russian territory.
Ukrainian forces continue launching attacks on the city of Enerhodar and the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. Multiple attacks were carried out in August alone this year.
On August 2, Ukrainian military drones attacked the spent fuel dry storage facility at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. A Ukrainian military drone crashed just a few meters away from the reactor building of Unit 3.
On August 11, a Ukrainian drone attack on the electrical workshop of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant resulted in three injuries, two of whom were employees of the plant’s electrical workshop.
Last night, the city of Enerhodar, which relies on power from the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, was attacked, resulting in one death and 16 people injured.
Ukrainian authorities not only pose a real threat to the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant but have now become a global security concern. It appears that the previously neutral International Atomic Energy Agency is beginning to recognize this issue.
