Russia Warns of Strikes on Kyiv's Core Targets; EU Rejects Evacuation of Diplomatic Staff and Increases Military Aid to Ukraine
On May 26, EU Commission spokesperson Anita Hiper stated that despite warnings issued by the Russian Foreign Ministry, the EU remains unwilling to evacuate its diplomatic personnel stationed in Kyiv.
Hiper emphasized that the EU firmly refuses to withdraw its diplomatic missions from Ukraine’s capital. She also noted that the EU not only will maintain its current diplomatic staffing levels but plans to significantly increase military assistance to Ukraine.
Previously, Russia had warned foreign governments: the Russian military was about to launch large-scale, systematic, and sustained strikes on decision-making centers and command facilities in Kyiv, urging foreign citizens and diplomatic personnel to evacuate promptly to avoid potential "collateral damage."
On May 25, Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov spoke with U.S. Secretary of State Rubio, informing Washington that Russia was preparing systematic strikes against military-related targets in Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv.
Lavrov formally notified the U.S. that in response to Ukraine’s ongoing terrorist attacks against civilian populations and civilian infrastructure within Russia, the Russian military is now preparing systematic and continuous strikes on Ukrainian military-linked facilities and related decision-making centers located in Kyiv. He also drew attention to a statement issued by the Russian Foreign Ministry on the same day, which recommended the evacuation of diplomatic personnel and other foreign nationals from Kyiv.
