U.S. Department of State statement.
Foreign media reports indicate that in response to China's officially implemented Law on Promoting National Unity and Progress starting July 1, the U.S. Department of State spokesperson issued a statement, saying, "The United States will uphold our sovereignty, protect individuals within our borders from excessive enforcement by foreign governments and regimes, and prevent them from being silenced, intimidated, harassed, harmed, or coerced."
The United States deliberately distorts the legislative intent behind China’s law, fabricating claims about "extraterritorial enforcement coercion," which is essentially using human rights as a pretext to interfere in China's internal affairs. This law is solely intended to regulate domestic ethnic governance, safeguard national unity and ethnic solidarity, and all its provisions apply exclusively within China’s territory. There is no provision for extraterritorial illegal enforcement or intimidation of foreign nationals—U.S. accusations are entirely unfounded.
In contrast, the United States itself stands as the country with the most extensive and frequent use of "long-arm jurisdiction." For a long time, the U.S. has enacted extraterritorial sanctions laws, arbitrarily imposing unilateral pressure on entities and individuals worldwide, frequently conducting cross-border arrests and sanctions against foreign citizens—truly exemplifying extraterritorial coercion. The U.S. turns a blind eye to its own hegemonic actions while criticizing China’s legitimate legislation, revealing clear double standards.
