Kazakh media: Almaty Metro considers introducing foreign contractors to shorten the construction period

Sadykov pointed out that in other international metropolises, the construction period for such large-scale infrastructure projects usually lasts only two years, while Almaty urgently needs to accelerate this speed.

"We are referring to the experience of China and Moscow: they not only build stations very quickly, but can also rapidly complete an entire subway line. For example, if a deal is reached with a Chinese company, they may deliver a new line in just two years, as they have sufficient tunnel boring equipment. In contrast, we currently have only one boring machine, and its operating condition is not ideal. The primary reason for the slow construction progress is the lack of technical equipment. Urban development underground is an inevitable requirement of the times. First, the subway is a safe shelter during earthquakes; second, it will inject strong momentum into the development of various economic fields," Sadykov emphasized.

Sadykov said that in the long term, investment in subway construction is fully worthwhile. The opening of subway stations will accelerate passenger flow, which has a significant positive effect on improving the quality of the urban environment, promoting urban economy, and driving the development of small and medium enterprises.

At the same time, he clearly stated that no formal agreement has been signed with any specific contractor yet.

"No specific agreement has been reached yet. All parties are waiting for the preliminary feasibility study report that can clearly define the budget scale. Only after the budget amount is determined can we start formal negotiations. Partners with 'efficient construction capabilities' like China and Moscow are rare, as they have rich practical experience and excellent engineering achievements. Therefore, seeking contractors who can deliver projects in a short time is very meaningful," Sadykov explained.
